Practice what you preach

Reading time: 4 min

As an entrepreneur, I’ve always relished the idea of being my own boss and taking on new challenges. But over the past few months, I’ve found myself feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of things I need to juggle both privately as professionally in order to balance and manage all the elements of my life successfully.

The four kids, our busy household, social events and other obligations have filled up my calendar for months. Well, years actually. And for the most part of these years, it all worked out pretty well. But a few months ago I found myself promising week after week to take better care of myself the next week. Unfortunately I didn’t. Not only was I harming my physical and mental health with these decisions, I also felt a bit of a fraud to my customers, as I am preaching to do the opposite of what I have been doing. Guilty! But let’s say, I might have been too busy, to see I was not practicing my company’s values.

I am grateful I’ve come to realize (with the help of a dear friend, iykyk) that it’s okay to prioritize my own well-being, even as a mom and entrepreneur. No, especially as a mom and entrepreneur.

I needed to realise that taking time for ME does not mean I’m less ambitious, a bad mom or that things will not be done. It means I make sure I feel strong enough to handle the busy times, the challenges and last but not least to enjoy the lovely journey again I choose to be on.

All in all, whether it’s taking a day off to recharge or saying no to a new project in favor of focusing on existing ones, I need to make sure I’m taking care of myself in order to run my family and my business effectively, while staying happy and balanced as a person. So, to make sure I recharged as much as possible, I booked the best trip ever.

3 days to Yasuragi, a renowned spa located in Saltsjö-Boo Sweden.

From the moment I arrived, I knew I was in for an incredible experience. Yasuragi’s Japanese-inspired design and tranquil atmosphere immediately put me at ease. The spa’s indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, and relaxation areas were all designed to promote relaxation and mindfulness. I felt the stresses of daily life melting away as I soaked in the warm water and took in the stunning views of the surrounding forest.

I also indulged in several spa treatments. Those treatments make you feel so special and taken care of. A full-body massage, facial, and foot reflexology were all part of my package. The therapists were extremely skilled and attentive, and I left every treatment feeling like I was walking on air.

And you might expect this one: the highlights of my Yasuragi experience were the quiet moments, alone in my room, with a book or my laptop. I did work, but these days I focused on strategy, planning and inspiration rather than hustling my way through my long to do list.

Walking outside, by myself, in the beautiful environment was another favorite. I recharged. I made new plans. I needed this. I could nag a bit about feelings of mom guilt or feeling overwhelmed about going back to the rat race… but let’s not. Overall, my Yasuragi experience was nothing short of amazing and relaxing. It was the perfect way to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with myself. And, last but not least, to not only make promises to take better care of myself from now on, but to actually do it.
